Colleyville Texas Family Photography | Emily Clark Photographer

Colleyville, TX family photographer. I adore photographing families! We’re all so busy with the day to day and it’s hard to realize our children are growing and changing before our eyes. I can’t recommend annual photos enough. Phone snapshots are great to have, but professional portraits of your entire family, are priceless.

I have working with children of all ages, families of all makeups, and I love highlighting the group together and each individual. My sessions cover a variety of portraits with a mix of candid shots. Each family selects their favorite photos from their session to add to their portrait collection.

I would be honored to serve your family in DFW. I primarily work in Grapevine, Southlake, Colleyville, and Flower Mound, Texas. But I travel all over the metroplex and beyond.

The Cost of Doing Business - Photography

I sometimes get asked what I charge by the hour. Photography is an art, and the actual session is possibly the shortest part of the whole process. I normally keep my answer short and sweet, but I’d like to explain the details for those interested. Most people have no idea how involved professional photography is.

The first interaction with a client is the inquiry. This can take just a few emails/phone calls or it can take many. There is no limit to how much time I will spend emailing or talking with a client. We discuss plans for location, time, wardrobe, and packages. I take care of contracts and invoices and prepare my clients with styling information.

For the session day, I charge camera batteries and prepare memory cards. I drive to the location or studio which is around 10-30 minutes each way. For newborn sessions, I prepare the set ups with specific backdrops and wraps, flokatis, tiebacks, and other props. Newborn prep can take 30 minutes or more. Family sessions take about an hour of shoot time while a posed newborn session takes up to 3 hours. Many clients only see this part of the process as what they’re paying for.

After the session, I either drive home from an outdoor session, or clean up the studio, launder, and pack up outfits and wraps from a newborn session. Then I immediately transfer images to my computer. When I start the editing process, I cull the images and eliminate the ones with eyes closed or other flaws. I then edit all of the best ones by hand. Some photographers only take pictures and pay someone else to cull and edit the images. I personally create the entire image myself and do all of my own editing and production.

My services are inclusive at the moment. I remove blemishes and distracting things in the background. I make any and all adjustments that are needed for me to be happy with the end result that I am delivering to my clients. I do not charge extra for those adjustments and edits. It usually takes a few hours to edit a session.

There are “fees” that a photographer pays just to function. Everything done on the computer requires a subscription. Website, host, booking platform, editing software, invoicing system, contracts, online galleries, etc. are all individual items that a photographer pays for each month. Many of us pay for continuing education courses throughout the year. Newborn wraps, backdrops, flokatis, outfits, headbands and extras, are all investments by the photographer as well.

Now to the main items used during a session. The gear! A professional full frame camera body will run anywhere between $2,500-$7,000. That’s just for the camera body, not including lenses. The lenses can run anywhere from $500-$2500 each. You need the camera body AND a lens to produce a photo. Most of us use more than one camera body and multiple lenses. Additionally, certain situations require light stands, tripods, lighting and soft boxes or umbrellas, memory cards, batteries, and bags for carrying all of it. Plus insurance, maintenance, and updating of gear throughout the year.

The “hour” long session is only a small fraction of what it takes to produce a full gallery of carefully hand edited, timeless photographs. So next time a photographer gives you their investment information, they have crunched a lot of numbers to make sure they’re profitable.

Spring has Arrived!!!

Spring is finally here in Grapevine, Texas! It’s time to bring out the warm weather wardrobe for spring photos. I have some unique spots around Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine, and Euless that I use for photography throughout the year, and spring is one of the prettiest times with our lush fields of wildflowers.

Wedding Planning - Choosing a Venue

If you're an engaged couple just starting your wedding planning, here are a few tips to help jumpstart the process:

FIRST, select a potential wedding date and start your guest list. These two things will determine a lot of things to follow, vendor availability, expenses, etc. SECOND, make a list of desired venues and start calling for availability. Your wedding venue, photographer, and caterer will be the most important to nail down first. These three things book up quickly and dates can be limited up to 2 years out. THIRD, once you’ve gotten some available dates from your venue, call Emily Clark Photography to see if I have your desired date available. Once you’ve confirmed both, BOOK THEM! Reserve your date immediately and you can build from there.

About your venue: If you want to have some say in your planning, avoid booking a venue that makes you use their own vendors. It limits you from being able to have your choice of say in many things. Caterers all provide their own flavors and quality of service. It’s like being forced to use one restaurant that they select for you. Photographers are another vital thing to your wedding day and not something that you want someone else picking for you. We all offer our own style and service, and an eye for what we capture. You get one chance to have your wedding photographed. Using the venue’s photographer will give you the same wedding photos that every other couple gets from that venue. Now if you don’t want to have any say in your wedding, that’s up to you.

I have numerous brides contact me for photography not realizing they cannot select their own photographer. Some end up cancelling their contract with the venue, but that ends up costing much more than looking ahead at the start of your search. For those who don’t, many end up very disappointed. Enjoy your wedding planning!

Denton Texas Wedding

I love a great love story! And K and M had a gorgeous wedding day to start the next chapter of their lives. They were married at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton Convention Center Hotel. They had a perfect rooftop space overlooking the city. The ballroom was spacious and beautiful. Their guest stayed onsite and enjoyed a post wedding brunch with the newlyweds the following morning. If you’re looking for a modern venue with on site guest stay, add this Denton Texas Hilton to your list!

When I asked a handful of couples who had been married for 10-50 years, they all said their wedding album was one of their most cherished possessions. Did you know that I personally designed a luxe wedding album for EVERY one of my couples? Yes! Every collection includes a luxe album and digital images from your big day. To inquire about my wedding collections, contact me here.

When I got married in 2006, I didn't have the option to get digital files from our photographer. It's been a sore subject over the years as technology has advanced and our appreciation for photographs has grown. I've made it my mission to make sure all of my couples get what they want immediately, while having a digital copy to use for celebrations and event down the road. Weather it's a photo to give to your future children, or a photo you decide to use at your 25th anniversary. You will have it all!

Most of my clients choose me for my storytelling style. Yes, I get posed shots and portraits. But what I do most is "in the moment" and something I just "see" in front of me. Many of the shots I present are moment and emotion that no one else saw. I'm always looking for raw emotion and true connections. I have shot at numerous wedding venues in DFW and love to make each wedding personalized with not only the wedding space, but most importantly WHO is present.

Another big MUST for me is to provide a personal timeline for each Emily Clark Photography couple. I know there are some who say they just know every family grouping and who is who. But one thing we all know is that each family is unique and it's impossible to read minds and know which distant relative or non-related loved on you want in a specific group shot.

I've heard way too many heartbroken families who had that pressure the day of and didn't get the shot because their photographer said they didn’t need “a list.” I do this for peace of mind for all of my couples and to double down on making sure we get everything you want and dream of. I remove the stress from you by preparing ahead, so all you have to do is relax and enjoy your day.
